Meet Our Musicians

Alicia Rubio is a violinist, vocalist, music educator, and the Musical Director of Mariachi Chicana. Originally from San Diego, California, she relocated to Texas in 2023 and has quickly become an active performer and educator throughout Central Texas. Alicia holds a Master’s degree in Latin Music with a concentration in Mariachi Performance from Texas State University, where she studied under mariachi vocal specialist Professor Michelle Quintero. She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from The Bob Cole Conservatory, studying classical violin under Andrea Byers.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Alicia serves as a mariachi instructor at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos and as a Mariachi and Violin Professor at Palo Alto College. She is also an active mariachi clinician and adjudicator, working with students and programs throughout Texas to promote excellence in mariachi education and performance.

As a performer, Alicia appears regularly throughout Texas as both a solo violinist and vocalist for weddings, private events, concerts, and cultural celebrations. Her professional performance career includes collaborations with prominent artists and appearances in numerous musical productions. She is also a former member of the two-time Grammy Award-winning Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea, one of the most recognized mariachi ensembles in the world.

As the founder and Musical Director of Mariachi Chicana, Alicia brings her extensive experience as a performer, educator, arranger, and leader to the ensemble. Through her artistic vision and commitment to mentorship, she guides the group's mission of celebrating mariachi traditions, elevating women in the genre, and inspiring future generations through music and cultural education.

Mireya Batres is a California-born mariachi vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who grew up in Juárez, Mexico. With over 34 years of experience, she has performed across the U.S., including headlining as a singer at Universal Studios and Six Flags in Orlando, Florida.

An accomplished vihuela, guitar, and guitarrón player, Mireya is also a songwriter, with several of her original songs recorded and released. She works with autistic children, using music to foster communication and expression, and aspires to become a certified music therapist.

She is a core member of Mariachi Chicanas, contributing her decades of expertise as a vocalist, instrumentalist, and songwriter to the ensemble’s artistry and cultural leadership.

Rachel Rodriguez is one of the premier vihuela performers in the United States and has been a leading figure in the all-female mariachi community for over a decade. She was a member of the renowned all-female ensemble Mariachi Divas de Cindy Shea for more than 10 years, performing on prestigious stages across the country and helping inspire the next generation of women in mariachi.

In addition to her mariachi career, Rachel is the founder and lead artist of MariaChingona, a dynamic project that blends traditional mariachi with the infectious rhythms of cumbia, creating a unique and energetic sound that celebrates both tradition and innovation.

A passionate educator, Rachel also teaches vihuela and mentors aspiring musicians of all ages. Her exceptional musicianship, stage presence, and dedication to preserving and advancing mariachi music have earned her recognition as one of the top female vihuela players in the United States. 

As a member of Mariachi Chicana, Rachel contributes her extensive professional experience, outstanding artistry, and leadership to the ensemble. Her commitment to musical excellence, cultural preservation, and empowering women in mariachi strengthens the group's mission of celebrating tradition while inspiring future generations of musicians.

Abby Garcia is a mariachi vocalist and instrumentalist from Edinburg, Texas, and a recent graduate of Texas State University. Her mariachi journey began in the Rio Grande Valley, where she developed a deep passion for mariachi music and culture. Abby was featured in Netflix’s Going Varsity in Mariachi, highlighting her dedication, talent, and commitment to the mariachi tradition.

Currently pursuing her teaching certification, Abby aspires to become a music educator and inspire the next generation of mariachi musicians. Through her work as both a performer and future educator, she is dedicated to preserving and advancing mariachi music while creating meaningful learning opportunities for young musicians.

As a member of Mariachi Chicana, Abby brings strong musicianship, expressive vocals, and a passion for cultural preservation to every performance. Her energy, artistry, and commitment to education make her an important part of the ensemble’s mission to celebrate and elevate mariachi music.

Mariola Chavez is a talented young multi-instrumentalist whose passion for music is reflected in her versatility and dedication. As a member of Mariachi Chicana, she performs on guitarrón, providing the rhythmic and harmonic foundation that drives the ensemble's sound. Beyond mariachi, she also plays violin in orchestra and tuba in band, demonstrating an impressive range of musical skills across multiple genres and ensembles.

Known for her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence, Mariola continues to grow as a musician while balancing her academic and artistic pursuits. Her enthusiasm for learning and determination to succeed make her a valued member of Mariachi Chicana and a promising young artist.

In addition to her musical ambitions, Mariola aspires to pursue a career in the medical field, where she hopes to make a positive impact on the lives of others. Through both music and service, she embodies the dedication, discipline, and leadership that are at the heart of Mariachi Chicana's mission.

Luna Vega is a trumpet player and vocalist from Bastrop, Texas, and one of the leading singers of Mariachi Chicana. Growing up immersed in both mariachi and band programs, she developed a strong musical foundation and a lifelong passion for performance that continues to shape her artistry today.

Currently a student at Texas State University, Luna is pursuing a degree in education and aspires to become an elementary school teacher. She is passionate about working with young students and believes in the power of music and education to inspire confidence, creativity, and cultural appreciation.

As a member of Mariachi Chicana, Luna contributes her expressive vocals and dedication to preserving mariachi traditions. Her enthusiasm, musicianship, and commitment to serving her community through both music and education make her an invaluable part of the ensemble.

Bailey Moss is a trumpet player from San Antonio, Texas, and a dedicated elementary school teacher with a passion for both music and education. Growing up in band programs, she developed a strong foundation as a brass musician and a love for ensemble performance that continues to shape her musical journey today.

Although her formal training began in band, Bailey was also influenced by her Latin family members, who shared their love of Mexican music and culture with her from an early age. This connection inspired her interest in mariachi and motivated her to expand her musical horizons by learning the tradition.

Known for her positive attitude, enthusiasm, and commitment to growth, Bailey has embraced mariachi with an open mind and a genuine desire to learn. As a member of Mariachi Chicana, she brings strong musicianship, dedication, and a joyful spirit to every performance.

In addition to her work in the classroom, Bailey aspires to one day lead her own high school band program, where she hopes to inspire young musicians and foster a lifelong appreciation for music. Her passion for teaching and learning reflects the educational mission and community values at the heart of Mariachi Chicana.

Breah Ford is a violinist for Mariachi Chicanas from Kyle, Texas. She grew up performing in orchestras and playing mariachi, and continues to showcase her talent today as part of the San Marcos SMART Orchestra, blending classical training with her passion for mariachi music.

Breah balances her musical pursuits with a professional career as a crime scene specialist and works as a cast member at Once Upon A Party, LLC. She earned a degree in Anthropology from Texas State University, bringing curiosity, discipline, and versatility to all aspects of her life. As a dedicated musician, she contributes her skill, professionalism, and artistry to Mariachi Chicanas, enriching the ensemble’s performances and cultural mission.
