Mariachi Chicana is an all-female, Mexican-American mariachi ensemble based in Austin, Texas. Composed of highly accomplished musicians with 10 to 35 years of experience, the ensemble brings together performers, educators, students, mothers, and professionals who share a passion for preserving and advancing mariachi music. The group is proudly bilingual, with many members holding university-level music degrees, teaching credentials, and extensive professional performance experience.

Under the artistic direction of violinist, vocalist, educator, and arranger Alicia Rubio, Mariachi Chicana presents dynamic performances that honor the traditions of mariachi while celebrating contemporary Chicana identity and women's leadership in the genre. The ensemble's repertoire includes beloved mariachi classics, original arrangements, and original music by guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter Mireya Batres, reflecting the group's commitment to both preservation and artistic innovation.

In June 2026, Mariachi Chicana proudly presented its premiere Father's Day Concert at the historic Scottish Rite Theater in Austin, Texas. The concert showcased the ensemble's artistic vision through a thoughtfully curated program honoring iconic singer-songwriters of Mexican music and demonstrated the group's commitment to presenting mariachi as a concert art form.

Beyond performance, Mariachi Chicana is dedicated to education and community engagement. The ensemble has presented educational programs at elementary schools throughout Central Texas, introducing students to the history of mariachi, traditional instruments, and Mexican cultural heritage while inspiring future generations of musicians.

Mariachi Chicana has been featured in VoyageAustin Magazine and on Austin's FOX 7 during Women's History Month, highlighting the ensemble's mission to increase women's representation and leadership within the mariachi community.

As a female-led ensemble, Mariachi Chicana is actively developing additional concert productions throughout the year that elevate mariachi music to the concert stage. The group is also preparing to release its first original single, marking an exciting milestone in its artistic journey.
